Last week, we hit the ground running at Villa Park for the Birmingham Jobs Fair, buzzing with excitement to share our FREE Film and TV Fusion course with the attendees.
The conversations never stopped. The Mission Accomplished team engaged with hundreds of attendees—from seasoned TV professionals, IT wizards, construction workers, hairdressers and hospitality staff and newcomers who had never pictured themselves working in Film or TV, each one of them were curious yet eager to dive into creativity. The main phrase expressed that day was “FILM AND TV IS FOR EVERYONE! “—and we mean it.
A bit about me—I’m Rowan (they/he), I am the Near Peer Facilitator for the Fusion programme. In short, I am someone that is in a similar position to where our participants want to end up when they finish the course. I have recently completed an apprenticeship with the BBC where I worked in TV locally with in the West Midlands recently released ‘This Town’ and CBeebies’ ‘I Can Do It, You Can Too!’. As a Production Assistant I built a portfolio of skills and contacts to share with our participants for both on and off productions.
At the fair, I tackled the real question: WHAT IF I DON’T HAVE THE RIGHT SKILLS? People think they don’t have any transferable skills for the film and TV industry. The screen industry demands a wide array of skills including administrative, camera operation, construction, content creation, costume design, drawing, editing, electrical expertise, fashion, finance, hairdressing, hospitality, IT, logistics, make-up artistry, music, project management, retail, and sound engineering. Whatever your skills or knowledge, there is a role for you in the West Midlands screen industries.
That day alone we came out with ten applications and counting so what are you waiting for? Visit our application page, check your eligibility, and apply now!
